Dhokra is a non-ferrous metal casting using the lost wax casting technique. This form of lost wax casting dates back over 4000 years to the Indus Valley Civilization & Mohenjo-Daro days. This very beautiful horse candle stand is used as Dhoop stand/holder and used in homes, hotels, restaurants, and resorts to augment the interior.

The craft takes its name from the Dhokra Damar tribe of West Bengal, distant relatives of the Gonds and Ghadwas of Central India. They are located in Odisha, Jharkhand, Bengal, Chhattisgarh. They lived under a blanket of stars and the shade of trees, hawking bracelets, anklets, earrings, wristbands, necklaces, and idols of gods and goddesses, besides utilitarian pieces such as combs, lamps, bowls, betel boxes, and cups. Around a hundred years ago, some Jhara tribesmen settled in Ektaal village. |
